List of Resources

The following resources were categorised according to two broad categories – approaching assessment within the classroom and practical assessment tools. The first category, approaching assessment in the classroom, was then divided into sections that allowed the development of a range of knowledges required to implement the assessment of students’ reading abilities and skills. These subdivisions include a brief look into the teaching of reading within the classroom; the purpose, importance and process of assessing reading; assessment frameworks currently in place within the Queensland education system (Education Queensland - EQ); as well as an overview of a range of assessment tools that may be used within the classroom to assess reading. The second category, assessment tools, was divided into sections based on the different assessment tools that may be used to assess reading within the classroom. These subdivisions include informal reading inventories (IRIs); running records; reading recovery; observations; The Literacy CAFE; and HELPS One-on-One Program.
