Guidelines for Criteria

Criterion 1 – Accuracy
Is the information presented in the resource accurate and free from error? Is there a strong, noticeable bias in the information presented throughout the resource? How credible is the author and/or corporation that has published the resource?

Criterion 2 – Pedagogy
Does the resource offer pedagogical strategies and approaches to teaching the knowledges, understandings or skills embedded within it? Does the resource link to evidence-based research and pedagogy related to the topic? Is the resource and associated information current? Does the resource provide up-to-date pedagogical strategies and approaches?

Criterion 3 – Age Appropriateness
Is the resource appropriate to the age and/or ability levels of the intended audience? Does the resource allow students to use knoweldges, understadings and skills they have already acquired in order to challenge and extend their learning?

Criterion 4 –Australian Curriculum
Does the resource address the requirements of the Australian Curriculum and the three strands, and substrands, of English (language, literature and literacy)? Does the resource allow the students to achieve the key learnings and objective associated with the curriculum?

Criterion 5 – Four Resources Model/'Learning by Design' Pedagogy
Does the resource align to the principles underlying the Four Resources Model and the 'Learning by Design' Pedagogy? Does the resource allow students to address and develop at least one of the four resources or the 'knowledge processes and sub-processes'?

Criterion 6 – Implementation and Accessiblity
Is the resource easy to access and implement within the classroom? Does it require a lot of preparation or is it simple and easy to implement?

Criterion 7 – Interactivity
Does the resource encourage active interaction in the learning experience? How much time is spent reading text rather than engaging with learning relevant to the topic?

Criterion 8 – Navigation
Is the resource easy to navigate? Is it clear and simple, or complex and confusing? Is the resource able to be navigated by students, parents and/or teachers, or all three?
